Nous l’affirmons haut et fort chez Konbini depuis le début ici, nous sommes des Formulix. Grâce à Netflix et Drive to Survive, on a redécouvert la Formule 1 il y a trois ans, à l’occasion d’une des séries de sport les plus percutantes de notre génération. Histoires captivantes, présence de Frenchies attachants, rivalités, amitiés et galères tous les ingrédients y étaient pour nous tenir en haleine et, surtout, pour nous faire regarder la Formule 1 tous les week-ends de Grands Prix, essais et qualifications coup, forcément, on s’est pris au jeu. Lassés d’attendre LA série tous les ans, on a branché Canal+ chaque week-end. Push, push. Box, box. On est devenus fans, et de plus en plus incollables. Loin d’être totalement au point quand même, car nous restons des Formulix, mais le paddock nous était de moins en moins mine de rien, cette année, on attendait avec moins d’impatience que les années précédentes cette saison 4 de Drive to Survive. Et le résultat a été à la hauteur de nos maigres espérances toujours aussi sympa, mais quand même pas ouf. On vous explique a, depuis le début avec cette série, pris le parti de raconter des histoires, au détriment parfois de la réalité. Les caricatures y sont donc légion, les rivalités exacerbées le gentil Lewis, le méchant Max, le pauvre Gasly, le rigolo Ricciardo, etc. Difficile donc de reprocher au champion du monde en titre de ne pas vouloir participer à cette saison 4… Verstappen avait ainsi expliqué en octobre dernier “Je comprends que cela doit être fait pour stimuler la popularité [de la Formule 1, ndlr] aux États-Unis. Mais de mon côté, en tant que pilote, je n’aime pas en faire partie. Ils ont inventé des rivalités qui n’existent pas vraiment. J’ai donc décidé de ne pas participer et je n’ai plus donné d’interviews parce qu’il n’y a, en fait, rien à montrer. Je ne suis pas vraiment du genre à faire dans la dramaturgie. Je veux juste des faits et des choses réelles.”La saison 4 de Drive to Survive est globalement très réussie là où on l’attendait, c’est-à-dire pour nous remémorer les batailles en pistes cru 2021 de Hamilton et Verstappen et les passes d’armes de leurs écuries respectives dans les médias et à la radio pendant les GP, par l’intermédiaire du fameux Michael Masi, le directeur de course. D’ailleurs, l’omniprésence des directeurs d’écurie dans cette saison 4, à commencer par Chris Horner Red Bull et Toto Wolff Mercedes, amène un éclairage différent sur “l’autre championnat”, primordial pour beaucoup le championnat constructeurs. Pour les fans de la première heure non, Cyril Abiteboul n’est plus là, mais ce bon vieux Günther est toujours fidèle au revanche, en tant qu’anciens néophytes, on découvre que Netflix aime beaucoup trop monter la sauce quand il s’agit de rendre sexy un documentaire, et on comprend donc mieux ce que les puristes de la F1, ou plus globalement ceux qui suivent le sport auto depuis bien avant les Formulix, reprochent à la série. Certains passages, quasi mensongers, racontent une tout autre réalité, un des narrateurs de la saison, le journaliste omniprésent Will Buxton, est un robinet d’eau tiède, et on se demande si tout un épisode sur Mazepin était vraiment de la saison quelques épisodes réussis, notamment autour du fil rouge de la saison, la bataille entre Verstappen et Hamilton. Mais on sent que la dramaturgie de certains épisodes a clairement été “forcée”, qu’une bonne partie de la saison a été invisibilisée on voit TOUT LE TEMPS les mêmes circuits, alors que la saison dernière a connu énormément de rendez-vous et que Netflix force pour séduire un public jeune et avide de drama et de sensations fortes. La saison de trop ? to Survive saison 4 est disponible sur Netflix. Le championnat du monde de Formule 1 reprend, lui, le dimanche 20 mars à Bahreïn.
